Super simple project I worked on today to take to the craft show.
I went through my stash of old keys
And picked out a few old, rusty ones.
I took a round, heavy duty magnet (I like using these rather than the magnet strips because they have a much better hold) and glued it to the back of the key.
To cover the hole on the front of the key (the magnet shows through the hole) I simply glued on a button.
Done! These are the kind of projects I love. Simple and inexpensive....and I think they look pretty cute too.

Since I was on a roll I got out some of my vintage clip earrings, took off the clip part and glued on a magnet. Love these too.
Hope they sell.
Hope they sell.

Awesome...I've done earrings and buttons, but not keys...YET!!!
ReplyDeleteOff to dig up some keys.
Always appreciate new ideas!
Warmly,
deb :)
These are just my kind of project, too, Jane! I even like that it can look like it took you longer so everyone is still suitably impressed. ; )
ReplyDeleteSweet! Love both the keys and the jewelry. Best of luck on your show. I'd love to have a booth or show set-up. Maybe in a year or two, when I have some of my big projects done.
ReplyDeleteI've been working with keys today myself. Glueing them on lampshades though, not making magnets. I love how yours turned out.
ReplyDeleteSomeone just recently turned me on to "earth magnets". They are mega strong, yet they're very thin and small. You can get them on etsy. I questioned their strength when I saw how small they were, but I'm telling you, these things could hold a car to a train track. I like that they're so thin because it keeps my magnets (spoons) from sticking out too far, and you can't see the magnet. They look like they are right on the fridge.
You've got so many great projects going on. Love them all.
Sometimes simple ideas work the best.
ReplyDeleteThe keys are great but the jewellery magnets are pure eye candy, just lovely.
Hope you week is a good one.
Maggie
Not only are your magnets unique and beautiful, but your pictures of them are fabulous! Great display! Another bookmark!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! You never cease to amaze me. I'm sure they'll sell well!
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to have your stash of keys! I love what you did with them. I have a few keys and will be doing this project. When is the craft show?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day.
Gail
Jane,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which I like better, the keys or the ear rings! They are both so creative and would dress up any fridge they were put on!

Hi Jane, of course they will sell. They are wonderful! And I love your sewing notions cabinet. I've seen those before with the spices in them but I would never think to make it over as beautifully as you have. Fantastic! Best wishes as you continue to get ready for the show. Have a great week! :) Tammy
ReplyDeleteI love old keys, and I would really love to see them on my fridge, holding up my grocery list. Great idea Jane! And I think I'll use the earring idea to bling out my front door!
ReplyDeleteYou're so cool!
ReplyDeleteJane, I have always loved old keys, and have never seen them used with magnets. Oooh, I like! And that turquoise blue button/earrings magnet, awesome!
ReplyDeleteLani
I have a huge stash of skeleton keys. I've been looking for some inspiration tonight for some little thank you gifts that I need to mail to crafty friends. What a great idea. I'll have to make sure they each know about your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling idea, I'm going to try this with my keys! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Tuesday!
Hugs,
Anne

ReplyDeleteHI Jane, everything is soooooo cute... really love the keys and buttons and " If you got it, Haunt it" still makes me giggle....
ReplyDeleteNow that's just genius! I love the vintage jewelry made into magnets, but I've never seen keys....I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteJane I'm getting caught up with the last couple of days worth of posts.... These vintage jewelry magnets are wonderful! Did those all sell at the craft fair? I'd love to buy a blue one (or two) if you have any left over.
ReplyDeleteJane:

Again...so clever! You come up with the most ingenious and yet simple ideas and I love them all. I'll bet you sold a lot of these!
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteI just started following your blog and I'm having a blast looking at everything. You're a whiz at repurposing and have such an artistic eye. I have questions regarding the magnets. Where would one purchase the magnets and what sort of glue did you use? I look forward to viewing more of your creativity!
